Indietracks interview #2: Personal Best

Personal Best are a four-piece indie/pop/rock group from many different places in the south of England. Lead singer and songwriter Katie Gatt has a penchant for writing sharply hooked, powerful songs of love, personal crisis, and finding your place in a world full of normies. Their influences as a band include Superchunk, Tiger Trap, Sleater-Kinney and Heart.

Hi Personal Best, please tell us a little bit about yourselves
We are El, Jay, Tom and our salubrious leader Katie Gatt. We come from Southsea, Brighton and Bristol.

What music are you enjoying at the moment?
Well Jay and El have been getting pretty excited about Great Grandpa’s upcoming album! If we’re going for the shameless plugs, El, Jay and Tom’s other bands all have new material either just out or about to be released. The four of us are pretty stoked about that!

Do you have any exciting plans for the rest of the year?
We have another short Euro run in July then it’ll be PB album recording time in the Autumn. Katie’s on fire writing at the moment and we can’t wait.

Do any band members have any particular skills, hobbies or claims to fame you wish to share?
Jay is beyond sick with a yoyo.

Who are you most looking forward to seeing at the Indietracks festival, and why?
This is really hard as we’re lucky enough to know a huge number of bands playing! Babyarms, MEREX, Martha, Charmpit, Crumbs, Daniel vs the World because they’re inspiring, strong and empowering. And Peaness because we’ve not seen them before and they’re great. There’s loads more too, but I’d fill the whole page!
