Indietracks interview #3: Peaness

Three piece indie-pop band Peaness formed in Chester, England in late 2014. The debut EP “No Fun” was self released on cassette tape in 2015 and began their flourishing ascend. The trio have gigged extensively since then, winning “the hearts of unsuspecting listeners across the length and breadth of the DIY scene, right through to BBC Radio 1’s Huw Stephens”. Recently singing to UK indie label ALCOPOP! RECORDS for their EP titled “ Are You Sure? ”, Jack from the label says: “To put it frankly, Peaness are pretty much THE best band i’ve heard in the last few months – They’ve achieved stacks already and we’re really excited to get on board and help out. The EP hasn’t left my head for weeks. It’s infectious, brilliant, DIY-influenced indie-pop genius.”

Hi Peaness, please tell us a little bit about yourselves
Hi. It’s Jess here, I sing and play bass guitar.
Hey I’m Rach and I play the drums, we also have the lovely Balla who plays guitar and sings.

What music are you enjoying at the moment?
Jess: We’re all into the debut album by The Big Moon. A favourite in the van is the latest Ryan Adams record.

Please tell us about an unusual place you’ve played a gig in the past
Rach: we don’t talk about the one gig we did in our early days, please ask no further questions

Do you have any exciting plans for the rest of the year?
Jess: Indietracks is superrrrr exciting! We’ve heard such great things over the last couple of years from fans, and bands! We can’t wait to join the party. Apart from festival season, we have our first dates in Scotland booked for Oct, plus we’ll be working on new material.

Do any band members have any particular skills, hobbies or claims to fame you wish to share?
Jess: I’m an asshole to the rest of the band continuously, that’s a skill.
Rach: She’s well good at it. We’re all arseholes to each other – it’s the only way we know to display affection. I think that’s what it is anyway…

Do you have any surprises planned for Indietracks?
Jess: The whole experience is going to be a surprise for us as we’ve not been before! I’ve heard it’s wise to bring plenty of merch, so maybe we could do a special Indietracks item?
Rach: Pyrotechnics

Who are you most looking forward to seeing at Indietracks, and why?
We can only pick one? Man. No fair. Let’s go with…Martha, because we haven’t seen them live before and we’ve met Jimmy and he’s super lovely.
Rach: I’m dead excited to see Martha too! I’ve had on Cate Le Bon’s album loads as well, she’s ace.
